Guntur is a small city (on the Eastern side of Hyderabad), just like a twin city to Vijayawada, situated on the other side of Krishna river. Guntur has grown fast as far as professional institutes are concerned. It is, in fact, the largest and a well developed city in A.P.

The most famous places in Guntur include Manasa Sarovar, Haailand which is situated on Guntur-Vijayawada highway, Kondaveedu Fort, the Undavalli caves, Amaravati, Uppalapadu Gardens and Prakasam Barrage.

Guntur has a number of tourist destinations on the outskirts of the city too! They are well connected by bus or you can just drive down and visit temples and museums. Krishna Barrage or Prakasam Barrage is located 30 kms. from Guntur. You can visit Nagarjunasagar dam and also see the enthralling caves in Undavalli on the banks of river Krishna.

Amravati is the famous Buddhist pilgrim centre, 35 kms. from Guntur. Once here, you can also reach Vaikuntapuram, 5 kms. further from Amravati and see the cave temple dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara.

Do visit the Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary in village Uppalapadu where birds take refuge in the water tanks in the village. Bird watchers will rejoice at the variety and species of birds that can be found here.

Kotappa Konda is famous for the shrine of Lord Shiva which is located on the top of a hill. Other spiritual destinations in Guntur include  Venkateswara Swamy temple, Viswa Nagar: Viswamandiram near Chowdavaram and Kondaveedu.

The temple in Pedapulivarru is dedicated to Lord Narendreswara Swamy (Lord Shiva) with the sun's rays falling directly on the idol.  Bottiprolu is yet another Buddhist spiritual destination where there are many 'maha stupa' and other sacred relics of Buddha.

Sri Amareswara Swamy temple is an old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and situated on the banks of Krishna river.

How to Reach Guntur

There is no airport in Guntur. The domestic airport in Vijayawada is 96 kms. from Guntur. Hyderabad International Airport is 250 kms. from Guntur. However, Railway station in Guntur has trains coming and leaving to all major cities and towns in India.
